About Yapuchiri
YAPUCHIRI
We are "Yapuchiri", a group of indigenous Aymara women from the rural communities of the Lake Titicaca region of the Peruvian altiplano.
Our lives are rich in many ways – the beautiful surroundings at 12,800 feet above sea level, the deep wisdom inherent in our culture. Our lives are difficult in many ways -- flood, drought, frost, and hail, racism, discrimination, lack of opportunity.
In the Aymara language “Yapuchiri” means “sower”, and in our culture it is the woman who sows the seed. We chose our name as we see ourselves sowing the seed of life. We understand our mission is to better the conditions of life of the Aymara women of the altiplano through artesania, formation and health care.
Since 1996, we have been involved in the area of artesania. Our products come both from our sacred lands and our desire to create a more humane society based on fair relationships. We hope that you are proud to purchase a product that promotes a just economic reality and provides us with the possibility to continue to make a difference.
We offer 100% Super Fine alpaca handknit baby sets, scarves and gloves. We also offer handmade dolls and monkeys.
